History and Origins: Opal has been treasured for centuries and has had many meanings throughout history. In ancient times, it was called "Pandora," "Light of the World," and "Queen of Gems" and was believed to have all the characteristics of other gemstones. The early Greeks thought opals gave their owners the ability to see the future and prophesy, while the Romans saw it as a symbol of hope and purity

Process: Monarch Opal is a high-end, man-made cultured opal. It consists of the same exact chemical + internal structure of natural opal but is highly stable and resistant to moisture and temperature. 

All color in Monarch Opal is the result of Bragg diffraction of visible light as occurs in natural opal. Furthermore, because the processes mimic nature, most pieces of opal have a diversity of color and depending on the angle of the light the opal will change color. No dye is used in Monarch Opal to produce, change or enhance color.
