Rutilated Quartz + Labradorite Double Deck Necklace #2

Regular price $450.00

This pendant is constructed using the Double Deck technique - a tedious, multi-step process requiring careful measuring, cutting, soldering, fitting, and finishing. The surrounding glyphs are individually hand stamped into the metal.

The centerpiece is a natural rutilated quartz and labradorite doublet. A doublet is created when two natural stones are fused and permanently layered together by a lapidary artist. In this piece, the natural characteristics of both stones become part of one unusual composite stone—combining the clear quartz and needle-like rutile inclusions with the shifting color and depth of labradorite.

In New Age traditions, rutilated quartz is associated with clarity, amplification, and energetic movement, while labradorite is traditionally associated with intuition, transformation, and protection. Labradorite is considered a powerful stone of magic and transformation, awakening supersensory abilities and the awareness of other states of energy.

Quartz has a Mohs hardness of 7, while labradorite is approximately 6–6.5. Because this is a fused doublet, care should be taken to avoid hard impacts and prolonged exposure to heat or harsh chemicals.

History: The name labradorite refers to the region of Labrador in Canada, where the stone was first found in the 18th century. in the 19th century, discoveries of deposits in Russia increased its popularity in jewelry.

Labradorite (Along with Rainbow Moonstone) belongs to a group of minerals called feldspars that are commonly found in the earth's crust. It has a dull, blue-green appearance, but when it is turned to the light, particularly if the surface is polished, a deep blue sheen peers, a shimmering light effect called labradoresence.
