From My Bench to You

My name is Sarah Chamorro, and I'm the founder and creative force behind Bayou Brass.

I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and would spend all my childhood summers back in Honduras where my parents immigrated from, to New Orleans in the 80s. We belong to a small Afro-Indigenous group called Garifuna or Garinagu. After Hurricane Katrina, we moved back home to La Ceiba, Honduras and that duality of cultures has deeply shaped both who I am and the work I create. 

Before there was a website or a folding table at a market, It was a torch, a little sheet metal, some stones, a small desk and my little old man. 

I've learned so much over the past 10 years of doing this work, but I still make everything the same way — by hand, one piece at a time. Hammered, soldered, set, and finished with intention. No factories. No shortcuts. Just metal transformed into something you can carry with you.

Jewelry is personal. It should feel like it chose you.
